Chair Elect

Meagan Savage

Academic
Advisor- College of Arts and Sciences

As Co-Chair of the Best Practices Committee, I have had the great opportunity gain valuable experience working with the AAA. Because of this, I feel I would make a great representative to represent the future  voice of the AAA. I have strong connections across our advising community, and would be honored to represent our committees and fellow advisers as we seek to improve our campus to for all members of our University committee.

Communications Coordinator

Megan Carroll
Academic Advisor - Explore Center

I have been an advisor in the Explore Center since May 2015. Having the Academic Advising Association as a new advisor was a great resource. It afforded me the opportunity to meet other advisors, get involved in the UNL community, and further my professional development. I look forward to the opportunity to serve as the communications coordinator on the AAA executive team for the 2016-2017 year. I received my Masters of Science in Counseling and Student Development from Kansas State University in 2015 and began advising at UNL after graduation. I received my Bachelors of Arts in History with a minor in Political Science from the University of Nebraska- Lincoln in 2012. As an advisor, I enjoy working with students to help them identify and achieve their personal, academic, and professional goals.

Treasurer

Vicki Fisher
Academic Advisor - College of Education and Human Sciences

I am pleased to accept a nomination for a second term as AAA Treasurer.  I enjoy my advising role within the College of Education and Human Sciences and have appreciated the opportunity to broaden my knowledge and skill set as Treasurer of AAA this past year.  With a year of knowledge and experience under my belt, I believe I can refine our existing financial and budgetary practices and create even more formalization of policies and procedures.

Secretary

There are no nominees for secretary. Write in votes may be cast for this position.

Faculty Representative

Ann Tschetter
Assistant Professor of Practice and  Major Advisor for History

I would like to serve on the executive committee because I want to get more faculty involved in all aspects of advising.  As advising  and teaching have gotten more complicated with probation, flags, and retention efforts, the relationship between faculty and advisors can play a critical roll in student  success beyond the classroom. By having a more general understanding of the advising process, faculty can be more effective in their dealings with students. I would welcome the opportunity to get more faculty involved with advising. As someone who does advising for a department and also is a faculty member, I hope I can bring a unique perspective to the position.

Tyler White
Assistant Professor of Practice- Department of Political Science

I have been a member of the UNL Advising community since the fall of 2009. I began my advising career in Political Science and helped to develop the National Security Studies Minor (NSST) where he continues to serve as advisor today. Since 2013 I have helped to grow the NSST minor from six to over one hundred students. I place heavy emphasis on working with the UNL Advising Community to work across disciplines, generate new curriculum, and give more opportunities to students interested in National Security at UNL.

I have also been involved in the UNL National Security Program at UNL teaching classes and providing leadership and mentorship for undergraduate students in the Intelligence Community Scholars Program. Since joining UNL as a fulltime employee, I have sat on multiple advising job searches, won multiple Parent’s Association awards and the UNL Department of Political Science Department Teaching Award. I have served three years on the Academic Standards committee working with fellow advisers and faculty members to review student appeals. I have also worked with the instructional and advising communities at UNO, Creighton, Bellevue University, and Nebraska Wesleyan in pursuit of expanding educational opportunities for UNL students.

I have often said to anyone who will listen that the advising community on campus is one of the most dynamic, functional, and student focused on campus. I would relish the opportunity to play a larger role in the advising community’s growth and positive impact on campus.

Graduate Student Representative

Amy Lester
Graduate Student- Educational Administration/ Student Affairs

Hello! As a graduate assist in the College of Business, I work with a variety of business students across all majors and more specifically with our up and coming International Programs. As a graduate student, I have been a member of AAA for the past year, and have greatly benefited from the resources and community provided by the association. As the Graduate Student Representative for AAA, I am excited about sharing these opportunities with my fellow students across campus. Through my participation in the Student Affairs Cohort and as a member of the EdAd Graduate Student Association, I will utilize these and other platforms to promote AAA with the goal of bringing those graduate students interested in Academic Advising into the association.

I have loved my time here at UNL, spanning back to my undergraduate career in Arts & Sciences. I wish to continue investing in this community through serving AAA on the Executive Committee for the next year. Thank you!
