Marco Abel

Marco Abel (Ph.D., The Pennsylvania State University, 2003) is Professor of English and Film Studies and, since 2014,Chair of the Department of English at the University of Nebraska. He joined the faculty in 2004.

Abel’s scholarly focus has morphed from 20th and 21st century American literature to the history of German cinema. Originally from Köln, Germany, he is the author of two monographs - Violent Affect: Literature, Cinema, and Critique after Representation (University of Nebraska Press, 2007) and The Counter-Cinema of the Berlin School (Camden House, 2013), which won the German Studies Association’s prize for Best Book in 2014; the co-editor of three volumes - Im Angesicht des Fernsehens: Der Filmemacher Dominik Graf (text + kritik, 2012); The Berlin School and Its Global Contexts: A Transnational Art-Cinema (Wayne State UP, 2018); and Celluloid Revolt: German Screen Cultures of the Long Sixties (Camden House, 2019) - as well as special issues of (or sections in) The Sixties: A Journal of History, Politics and Culture, Senses of Cinema, and German Studies Review. He is also the author of over fifty essays and interviews, translator of the cultural economics book Creativity and Innovation in the Music Industry (Springer, 2006, 2ndedition 2012), and co-editor of the University of Nebraska book series, Provocations. He is currently interested in exploring the history of political, or “left,” cinema in German film culture from the 1960s to the present.


Richard DeFusco

Richard DeFusco (Ph.D., University of Tennessee-Knoxville, 1985) Professor and Chair of the Department of Finance in the College of Business, joined the UNL faculty in 1985. Prior to being appointed chair of the department, he served as Executive Director of Graduate Programs in the College of Business. De Fusco’s research expertise in the area of investments. His publications have appeared in various journals including the Journal of Finance and Financial Management. He is the co-author of Quantitative Investment Analysis which is used as part of the curriculum for the Chartered Financial Analysts Program offered by the CFA Institute. Since 2004, he has served as a member of the Nebraska Investment Council, an independent agency of the State of Nebraska that manages the funds of the state.


Clinton Krehbiel

Clinton Krehbiel Professor and Department Head

Clinton R. Krehbiel is the Marvel L. Baker Head and Professor of the Department of Animal Science at the University of Nebraska. He holds B.S. (1988) and M.S. (1990) degrees from Kansas State University and a Ph.D. (1994) from the University of Nebraska. Clint was a postdoctoral fellow at the U.S. Meat Animal Research Center in Clay Center, NE.

Prior to rejoining the University of Nebraska in January 2017, Krehbiel was Regents Professor, the Dennis and Marta White Endowed Chair in Ruminant Nutrition and Health, and the Assistant Department Head of Animal Science at Oklahoma State University. Hespent 3.5 years on the faculty at New Mexico State University before joining the faculty at Oklahoma State University in January 2000. Clint’s research interests include understanding relationships involving ruminal fermentation, gut metabolism, and nutrient absorption to improve health, growth, feed efficiency, and end-product quality of beef cattle. He also studies interactions between immune function and animal growth during acute and chronic infections with bovine respiratory disease. Clint has published more than 120 refereed journal articles and book chapters, and numerous abstracts, research reports, and conference proceedings. Krehbiel has served as PI or co-PI for external grants totaling more than $5,500,000 in support of collaborative research. Clint has taught graduate courses in Rumenology, Laboratory Techniques in Animal Nutrition, and Protein Nutrition.

Krehbiel has been a member of the American Society of Animal Science (ASAS) since 1988 and has served on the Editorial Board for Growth and Developmental Biology and Ruminant Nutrition, as Associate Editor for Animal Nutrition, as chairperson of the Alpharma Beef Cattle Nutrition Symposium, and on the Board of Directors. Clint is also a member of the American Dairy Science Association, American Registry of Professional Animal Scientists, and the Plains Nutrition Council (President 2007-2008). Krehbiel has received the ASAS Southern Section Outstanding Young Animal Scientist Award forResearch, the Oklahoma State University Department of Animal Science Tyler Award, the James A. Whatley Award for Meritorious Research in Agricultural Science, the Gamma Sigma Delta Research Scientist Award of Merit, the Sarkey’s Distinguished Professor Award, the OSU University Service Award, and the AFIA ASAS Ruminant Nutrition Award. Clint and his wife Shelly have three daughters.


Tom Marley

Tom Marley Professor and Chair

Tom Marley (Ph.D., Purdue University, 1989), is Professor and Chair of the Department of Mathematics. He joined the department in 1989, and served as Vice Chair of the Department from 2001-2005 and was Acting Chair in 2009. He has been a PI or co-PI on over $5 million in National Science Foundation grants. From 2004-2015, he served as director of the Nebraska IMMERSE program, a national summer bridge program for students transitioning from undergraduate to graduate school in mathematics. In 2006, he received an Award for Distinguished College or University Teaching from the Nebraska-South Dakota section of the Mathematical Associate of America. His research is in the field of commutative algebra, a branch of mathematics originating from the classical fields of number theory and algebraic geometry. He has published numerous research articles and had ten Ph.D. students graduate under his supervision. His articles have appeared in such journals as the Journal of the London Mathematical Society, Journal of Algebra, and Proceedings of the Edinburgh Mathematical Society. He also serves on the editorial board of the Rocky Mountain Journal of Mathematics.


Harris Smith

Harris Smith (M.F.A. University of Washington, 1991) is an Associate Professor in Acting and Movement at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. He serves as the Director for the Johnny Carson School of Theatre and Film.

His research focuses on psycho-physical character development for the actor. His creative activity is, choreographing violence forstage and film in which he is a “Certified Teacher” of stage combat by the Society of American Fight Directors. He received the Meritorious Achievement Award from the Kennedy Center/American College Theatre Festival for Fight Choreography. He has worked as an actor, fight choreographer and movement coach at a number of national and international venuesincluding, the Tony award winning Utah Shakespeare Festival. He has also played a number of roles for film and television including the Oscar nominated film, Runaway Train.

Harris is a member of Actors Equity Association (AEA) and Screen Actors Guild/American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (SAG/AFTRA). As a member of SAG/AFTRA, Harris served on the SAG Awards committee. He has also served as a Board Memberfor the University Resident Theatre Association (URTA).
