Carson fund to benefit U of Nebraska students

$1 million to aid arts scholarship

And here’s Johnny’s scholarship…

The John W. Carson Foundation, named for the “Tonight Show” host and U of Nebraska alum, has gifted $1 million to the U of Nebraska Foundation to create the Johnny Carson Opportunity Scholarship Fund.

Coin aims to support students who graduated from a Nebraska high school and are currently enrolled in UN’s Hixson-Lied College of Fine and Performing Arts.

Preference will be given to students in the School of Theater and Film, which was renamed for Carson after his death in 2005.

In 2004, Carson himself donated more than $5 million to support film and theater programs at the university, and to renovate and expand the Temple Building that houses Hixson-Lied’s theater program. Carson’s estate gave an additional $5 million in 2005, following the TV icon’s death.
