International Education Week 2019 at Nebraska November 18-22, 2019

International Education Week is an opportunity to celebrate the benefits of international education and exchange worldwide.

A joint initiative of the U.S. Department of State and Department of Education, International Education Week (IEW) showcases the efforts of programs that prepare Americans for a global environment and attract future leaders from abroad to study, learn, and exchange experiences in the United States. The annual event also highlights international diversity an promotes the opportunity to experience new cultures.

International Education Week highlights Nebraska's global community

The kick-off event for IEW2019 was hosted in the Kawasaki Reading Room with support from the International Student & Scholar Office and Student Involvement.

UNL is home to students and scholars from 115+ countries around the world.

UNL hosts Global Huskers Festival at Memorial Stadium

The first ever Global Huskers Festival saw 500+ Huskers celebrate their international heritage with food, cultural booths, live performances and an international fashion show.

Nebraska students have the chance to study, intern, research and volunteer across the world. Last year, faculty-led programs were hosted in 43 countries.
"More than 3,000 students from 135 nations. We celebrate each of our international Huskers from around the world and the individual cultures and values they contribute to the Nebraska experience."

International Education Week to host over 40 campus events from Nov. 18-22

The College of Education and Human Sciences hosted a full week of events, from a workshop translating study abroad to a resume to Global Hot Drinks with 6 different international cultural drinks from around the world.

In Nebraska alone, international students contribute $177.6 million and support 1,738 jobs.

First Global Cafe and Connection unites students over ethnic cuisine

During IEW, students had a chance to learn from #HuskersAbroad alumni who interned and studied abroad. The Education Abroad Office hosted an Intern Abroad Panel and the Edythe Wiebers Scholarship Reception, while the College of Business also hosted a panel for their student internships abroad.

During the IANR Global Engagement Open House, many students, faculty and staff had the chance to learn more about international opportunities in agriculture and natural resources.

In addition to cultural programming for students, Nebraska's IEW celebrations also included professional development opportunities for staff, including a Chinese Name Pronunciation Workshop and brown bag lunch on supporting international student success in the classroom.
