GENERAL DESCRIPTION:  


Approximately sixteen full-time, seasonal positions will assist fisheries management crews with fish sampling activities.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:  The listed functions are illustrative only and are not intended to describe every function which may be performed in the job level.

 
  • Duties will be variable and may include electrofishing, netting, stream/habitat surveys, angler surveys, chemical restoration, data entry, and equipment maintenance as well as other routine fisheries management tasks.
  • Biologist technicians may occasionally assist other regional fisheries management crews and aquatic habitat biologists.

PREFERENCES/**AGENCY REQUIREMENTS:

Preference will be given to those seeking a career in fisheries as these positions are intended to provide valuable experience for individuals seeking a fisheries career.  Preference will also be given to applicants with a High school degree plus experience in fish and wildlife resource management, research, or college course work towards a degree in fishery or wildlife management, ichthyology, hydrology, watershed science or other closely related field.

  • Dates of availability (starting and ending dates are particularly important).
  • These statewide-positions may be based out of Casper, Cody, Green River, Jackson, Lander, Laramie, Pinedale, and Sheridan, indicate any of the work locations that you would not consider.

KNOWLEDGE: 

 
  • Technicians must be able to work well independently with minimal supervision and also able to work well with others on a small crew.

Necessary Special Requirements


PHYSICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:

 

  • These are field positions that may require considerable physical labor including working and camping in the field for 8-10 days at a time.
  • Operation of 4wd vehicles and towing trailers will be required.


NOTES:
 
  • FLSA: Non-exempt
  • These statewide-positions may be based out of Casper, Cody, Green River, Jackson, Lander, Laramie, Pinedale, and Sheridan.
  • The positions range in duration from 6-8 months. Most positions start at the beginning of April or May and conclude at the end of September or October.
  • Lodging, waders, rain gear, uniform, and other necessary field equipment and expenses will be provided when in the field. Off duty housing is not provided.

Other Fisheries Technician Positions:
 
  • The Department is also hiring 3-4 month fisheries technician positions. These are similar positions with shorter duration contracts. A total of 6 positions are available. These positions must be applied for separately.
