Make plans to attend the Haskell Ag Lab Family Field Day on Wednesday, August 3rd. The event will take place at our farm site. We will also be celebrating the 65th anniversary of the Haskell Ag Lab.
Employee Spotlight
Nicole Luhr is a Research Technologist for Entomology. Her primary focus is integrated pest management. Nicole assists Tom Hunt with insecticide trials, soybean gall midge projects, and manages the suction and light traps for crop pests. In addition to assisting Tom, she manages the Haskell Ag Lab apiary which had its second honey harvest last year. The honeybees are hard at work this summer and doing well.

New Employee
Wendy Winstead joined the Haskell Ag Lab on May 23 as a Financial Coordinator. She is very familiar with UNL/IANR since she worked at the Haskell Ag Lab 4 ½ years (2013-2017). Wendy served in an Accounting Associate position prior to accepting a new career opportunity at Wayne State. Welcome back Wendy!
Please plan to join us at the Haskell Ag Lab for Coffee and Conversations the 2nd Tuesday of each month at 9 AM. We will have coffee and snacks ready. The next Coffee and Conversations will take place on Tuesday, July 12th. Carol Larvick, Extension Educator, will be here to talk about What's New in Food Preservation. Summer and On-Call Workers
The Haskell Ag Lab is blessed with some extra hands this summer to assist with various research and educational projects.
Riggs Patton - is working with Nicole Luhr, Javed Iqbal, and Logan Dana. Riggs is originally from Fullerton, NE and is a recent Wayne State College graduate.
Mollie Schutte - is working with Nicole Luhr and Logan Dana as well as assisting with other projects as needed. Mollie is from Dixon, NE and will be a senior in high school this fall at Laurel-Concord-Coleridge.
Agnes Kurtzhals - is working with Leslie Johnson. Agnes is from Coleridge, NE and will graduate in August from Wayne State College.
Grace Dana - is working with Nicole Luhr and Tom Hunt. Grace is from Laurel, NE and will graduate from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in August.
Cassidy Chase - is interning with Sarah Roberts and assisting the Dixon County Extension Office. Cassidy is from Allen, NE and will graduate in December from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.
Michael Kurtzhals - is working for Logan Dana and assists with various duties around the farm. Michael is from Coleridge, NE and graduated from Wayne State College in May.
Save the Date for these events at the Haskell Ag Lab Thursday, August 4th - Forage Field Day. There will be presentations and demonstrations focused on forage production and utilization for livestock. More details will be coming in the July newsletter.
Tuesday, August 16 - Tomato Canning Workshop - This will be offered again this year. It will be an evening workshop. Carol Larvick will be the instructor for this class.
Saturday, September 24 - Fall Fest - More information on programs and events will be available later.
