Coming soon: all students to receive @huskers.unl.edu email addresses

New secure university email is coming for students.
New secure university email is coming for students.

In the coming months, all students will be getting their own @huskers.unl.edu email account. The university is doing this for many reasons, but most importantly for students, this means:

  • Students won't miss important messages. The university-issued email will be the single source for official university communication and the only one connected to MyRED and Canvas.
  • Emails will be more secure. Students will receive more detailed and helpful messages about their accounts, like bills, financial aid, and grades, instead of being redirected to MyRED.
  • Campus-wide communications will be easier. This will keep everyone more informed and safer during emergency situations.
  • Students will have improved access to technology. It will be easier to use university library services and software, including Box, Zoom, Adobe Creative Cloud, Matlab, Office WebApps, Office 365, and Westlaw.

In moving to a university-issued email, UNL will join UNO, UNK, and UNMC, along with its Big Ten peers and other public universities, in having a secure method in place to protect student and university data from phishing, malware, and cyberattacks.

The email transition team has been working closely with key campus groups, including ASUN Student Government and Graduate Student Assembly, to make this change an easy process. The transition will happen in phases and the team will provide easy-to-follow instructions and pop-up stations for hands-on help.

More information will be provided in the coming weeks, and communications will continue throughout the semester until the transition is complete.
