Awarded by the Department of Mathematics, the Master of Arts for Teachers degree is uniquely designed for secondary and middle-level mathematics teachers. The courses aim to deepen teachers’ mathematical knowledge for teaching by focusing on advanced mathematical concepts that underlie or have strong connections to the school curriculum. Most of the courses were developed in partnership with K–12 teachers. As a result, the content is rigorous yet grounded in the realities of K–12 classrooms. This degree can provide considerable value for teachers wishing to obtain an advanced degree that relates to and genuinely benefits their classrooms and for high school teachers wishing to teach dual credit courses or teach at a community college. The MAT program consists of 30 credit hours, comprising six courses in MATH and four elective courses. You can complete the program in as quickly as two years, while enrolled part-time (although the recommended time for full-time teachers is three years).

Admission Requirements
The MAT program accepts applications year-round and admits students on a rolling basis for the fall, spring, and summer semesters.
A completed Graduate School application includes the following:
- Official transcripts from all institutions previously attended
- Completed graduate school application and application fee
- Verification of English proficiency is required if native language is not English
- GRE or GMAT scores are NOT required
- Current resume
- Statement of purpose
- Secondary or middle-level mathematics teaching certification OR currently teaching mathematics
