Nebraska Union Board Membership

NEBRASKA UNION BOARD APPLICATION

The Nebraska Union Board, composed of students, faculty and staff is a participant in Union policy-making. The Board assumes the role of advocate for the various segments of the University community to the Director of the Nebraska Unions and the Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs.  The Director is expected to develop and maintain a high level of confidence and trust with the Nebraska Union Board. The Board's recommendations are to be sought and given careful consideration in all aspects of Nebraska Union operations, programs and planning. 

The Union Board consists of sixteen voting members: twelve students, two faculty and two staff members. The student members shall be currently enrolled students in good standing and enrolled for at least six credit hours during the semester within their term or terms of office. Students are appointed to a one-year term. Student members shall be required to attend a scheduled retreat for general orientation to Union Board policies and procedures. In addition, members shall be required to attend Board meetings every other Thursday night at 5:00 p.m. If students' schedules do not comply with this time, they shall be replaced.

There are two standing committees concerned with the Union structure and special committees created as needed. Each member of the Board, excluding officers, will be expected to serve on a Board committee. The committees are: Space Allocation and Membership. 

Meetings

The Nebraska Union Board meets bi-weekly on Thursdays from 5:00 p.m.  – 6:30 p.m.  Additional meetings and or committee meetings may be required.  Members are also expected to attend an information session on Union Board policies and procedures. 

Eligibility

Student Membership shall consist of currently enrolled students at UNL who are in good standing and are enrolled for at least six (6) credit hours in the semester during their membership term.

Term of Office

The twelve (12) student members shall all be appointed for a one 12 month term. Term of office is March 2021 to May 2022.  

Candidate Filing

Applications can be completed online by 5:00 p.m., Thursday, February 25, 2021.  

Selection Process

A committee consisting of three (3) or more board members and one (1) advisor will interview applicants. Committee will make final selections and notify all applicants of their decision.
