Saturday, October 21

HealthierU Homecoming Step Challenge Kickoff

All Day | Online

Join in on the celebration of Homecoming 2023 with some movement! University faculty and staff are invited to participate in the HealthierU Homecoming Step Challenge! The goal of this challenge is to reach 100,000 steps between October 21 and October 28! All participants will receive a prize for participating in the challenge. Anyone who completes the 100,000 steps before October 28 at 11:59pm will have their name entered into a drawing to win the grand prize! Memorial Stadium Birthday Party

11 am - 1 pm | Memorial Stadium - enter via Gate 24

Come celebrate a century of Saturdays at Memorial Stadium with birthday cake, a stroll onto the field and birthday wishes from leaders on campus!

Blood Drive

9 am - 4 pm | Nebraska East Union | Great Plains Room

The American Red Cross and Nebraska Community Blood Bank will have locations on campus throughout the week for students to donate blood. Sign up to donate here.

Husker Pantry Drive

1 - 4 pm | Drop off donations at Big Red Resilience and Well Being Office 

Food and other essential items can be taken to the University Health Center north entrance near the Husker Pantry on Monday, October 23. Those who prefer a contactless donation may purchase items via the pantry’s Amazon wishlist and have them delivered directly to the pantry.

Showtime! at the Coliseum

7 pm doors open; 8 pm performances start | Coliseum

Watch recognized student organizations battle against each other with skits and dances for ultimate bragging rights. This is a student event.

Food Truck Frenzy

9 pm | East Stadium Loop Parking Lot: Outside of Coliseum

After Showtime, join the University Program Council and the Chancellor’s Commission on the Status of People of Color, for free treats from Rutabaga's, Hog Wild Pit Bar-B-Q, and 402 Creamery! This is a student event.

Glow Up to Power Up Session: The Art & Science of Negotiation and Self Advocacy in the Workplace

11:30 am - 12:30 pm | Nebraska Union | Platte River Room South

Big and small, negotiations take place every day, multiple times a day. As you head into the professional world, you’ll be met with the need to negotiate projects, time and deadlines, skill-building development, cross-departmental priorities, relationships and your own needs for recognition and work-life balance. In this Glow Up, learn just how many and what types of micro negotiations exist. Most of all, learn how to negotiate with care, empathy, clarity and with the long-tame in mind.

Glow Up to Power Up Session: Mastering Confidence in Conflict Resolution

Workplace conflict comes in many sizes and forms and doesn’t exclusively mean a fight with a colleague! As you enter the professional world, you’ll encounter conflicts big and small each day. Your peak performance and job satisfaction depends on your ability to master the art of engaging in and resolving conflict of a proportion. Learn why conflict resolution is a must-have skill in today’s global economy and how to do it with ease.

Traditions Race

Come test your knowledge of UNL landmarks and traditions! Registered teams will compete in a race to complete various traditions on Nebraska's East Campus!

Nebraska Women's Leadership Network: Fast Track your Network

5:30 - 7 pm | Wick Alumni Center

Building your professional network can never start too early and in this special cocktail hour workshop, you’ll takeaway the top proven steps – like building your networking ‘tree’- to fast track your network. Bonus – you’ll get to network with awesome UNL alum to practice your new super-powered networking skills! Leave with know-how and an expanded network! Register for this event.

Glow Up to Power Up Session: Balancing Vulnerability with Emotional Professionalism

In today’s professional world, employees should feel comfortable and empowered to express their authentic selves, including their personal values, beliefs and experiences. Bringing our full selves to the workplace helps create an inclusive and supportive work environment and increases engagement, creativity, innovation, as well as team-wide collaboration. And we must balance our openness and vulnerability with the right level of professionalism so that we and the organizations we serve flourish with positivity. Learn how to ‘be you’ in the workplace while keeping a professional and ‘we all belong here’ mindset.

Glow Up to Power Up Session: Feedback

1:30 - 2:30 pm | Nebraska East Union | Prairie B/C (Goldenrod/Sunflower)

Research is clear and constant: The single best professional development tool is feedback. But giving and receiving it can be clunky and anxiety producing. This Glow Up will provide you with an easy, no-drama framework for giving feedback, plus fun, actionable tips to ask for feedback from colleagues, teammates and leaders. Starting a habit of feedback now will accelerate your career and help you stand out in the workplace.

Cornhole Tournament

5 pm | Tournament location has changed to Meier Commons (green space north of Nebraska Union)

Teams of two representing a student org will face off compete against each other in the classic lawn game of cornhole (a.k.a. bags). Games will take place in Meier Commons and the top three placing teams in each homecoming division will receive points. All boards and bags will be provided.

Distinguished Alumni Conversations

8 am - 3 pm | TBD

To kick off the homecoming weekend celebrations, each college has curated a series of conversations with distinguished alumni who are returning to campus to interact with students, staff and faculty. Whether in a classroom setting or over lunch, the returning honorees provide insights into leadership, innovation and new challenges for students planning to pursue careers with degrees in the disciplines represented by the nine Nebraska Colleges.

Multicultural Homecoming Reception

5 - 7 pm | Wick Alumni Center

Hosted by the Chancellor's Commission on the Status of People of Color and OASIS, the Multicultural Homecoming Reception provides a space to recognize alumni who have made contributions of time, talent and/or treasure to support the respective RSO, communities of color or students served by those communities. All faculty, staff and students who engage with this networking opportunity leave with a renewed sense of purpose in UNL’s educational mission. Registration is requested.

Friday, October 27

Lawn Display Viewing

12 pm | City Campus 

Stroll campus and check out the Homecoming lawn displays from fraternities and sororities participating in the annual competition. All displays will embody the 2023 homecoming theme and will be up throughout the weekend.

Cornstock

4 - 8 pm | Memorial Stadium East Plaza

Cornstock offers a memorable evening for Husker fans of all ages. Check out the homecoming parade, enjoy food trucks, ridethe Ferris wheel, listen to live music and more! There is something for everyone to get in the Nebraska spirit before the Huskers take on Purdue.

  • 4 pm – Cornstock opens
  • 6 pm – Parade begins 
  • 7 pm – Jester Competition begins
  • 8 pm – Cornstock closes

Homecoming Parade

Come celebrate a century of Saturdays at Memorial Stadium with a homecoming parade. Watch student organizations, community groups, homecoming royalty, the Cornhusker Marching Band and some special guests as they perform in our annual parade. Participants will include floats, golf carts, balloons, performances and more! 

The Lincoln community, alumni and friends of the university are all invited to watch along the parade route, which starts outside the Nebraska Union and makes its way down 16th Street and Vine Street, ending up in the East Memorial Stadium Loop. Stay after the parade to grab some food and watch performances at the Cornstock Festival!

Alumni of Color Network Social

7 -9 pm | Gravity (1140 O St, Lincoln, NE 68508)

Join us for a complimentary refreshing drink while connecting and catching up with fellow alumni after the homecoming parade. Non-alcoholic beverages and appetizers will also be served. Alumni, faculty, staff and members of the Husker community are welcome to attend this free event. Pre-registration is required for a complimentary drink token. The suggested attire is casual. This event is co-sponsored by the Nebraska Alumni Association and the Alumni of Color Network. Registration is requested.

Homecoming Football Game

Cheer on the Huskers as they take on Purdue. Homecoming royalty will be crowned during the game, and homecoming winners will be announced during halftime.

HealthierU Homecoming Step Challenge Conclusion
