Eight students in the University of Nebraska–Lincoln’s College of Journalism and Mass Communications recently received first-place honors in the college division of the 2020 Nebraska Broadcasters Association Pinnacle Awards.

The awards were established in 1958 to encourage member stations to achieve excellence in programming, news and community service. The college division was added several years later, and the high school division was added in 2016.

The following are first-place winners in the college TV category, with their year in school or graduation year, major(s) and hometown:

• Best news story: “What It Means to be a Black Business Owner,” Allie Snow, May 2020 graduate, broadcasting, and sports media and communication, Tekamah

• Best news feature: “Drones Hunt Severe Weather,” Morgan Holen, May 2020 graduate, advertising and public relations, and broadcasting, Omaha

• Best sports story: “U.S. Open Bowling,” Casey Surma, May 2020 graduate, sports media and communication, Dunkirk, New York

• Best live sports event: “Huskers vs. Southern University,” Dustyn Stortzum, senior, sports media and communication, Silver Creek

• Best promotional announcement: “KRNU 50th Anniversary Promo,” Audrey Brooker, senior, broadcasting, and sports media and communication, New Hyde Park, New York; Ann Milroy, senior, advertising and public relations, and broadcasting, Omaha
