The University Housing community is excited to welcome our new and returning students to campus. Complete move-in information will be posted to this website in mid-summer.  
Appointment Times

Assigned appointment date and times are sent to students' Huskers email July 15. Times will be between 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Aug. 18-22. Curbside unloading is available only during these hours.

It's important you arrive at the Bob Devaney Sports Center for check-in no earlier than 15 to 30 minutes before your assigned time. If you're late for your appointment time, we'll do our best to move you in as soon as possible. If you're more than 30 minutes early, we'll ask that you wait until your designated move-in time.

Move-in times are determined by the hall in which you will reside. Each hall has a specific move-in day and time, based on the curbside unloading schedule. Typically, higher numbered floors will move in earlier in the day.

How can I sign up for a different move-in time?

If you are unable to arrive at your assigned move-in time, you can reschedule a time in the housing portal and use self check-in.

What times can I reschedule?

Rescheduled move-in times are available only after 6 p.m., Aug. 18-22, or beginning at 8 a.m., Aug. 23. To make a change, go to the Housing portal, click on "Reschedule my move in time," then pick your new date and time. Changes must be made 7 days prior to the planned arrival time.

Curbside move-in is not available during rescheduled move-in times. Check-in at your hall and then move your belongings into your room. Do not go to the Devaney Center. Carts will be available in the hall lobbies, and you’re welcome to have guests help you move in.

Curbside & Assisted Move-in Overview

We aim to provide curbside move-in during assigned move-in times, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Aug. 18-22. Curbside unloading is available only on these dates during those hours, but not during rescheduled appointments. In the unlikely event the moving company is unable to fully unload and deliver items from your vehicle to rooms due to labor shortage or other unforeseen issues, movers will unload your belongings and then place items into carts. After you park in the nearest garage or assigned lot, pick up your cart near the unloading area, unload in your room, and return the cart to the outside unloading area. We apologize for the possible inconvenience and are working hard to make sure you have the best move-in experience possible.

  1. Students and families will arrive at the Bob Devaney Sports Center and receive a move-in packet. Please arrive no sooner than 30 minutes before your move-in time. Follow signs to the parking lot north of the Devaney Center. If you arrive earlier than 30 minutes before your appointment time, you'll be asked to park in the waiting lot until your move-in appointment time.
  2. After receiving your move-in packet, you’ll return to your car. Follow the move-in map to your hall provided by University Housing. It's important you follow University Housing’s directions to the hall in order to flow into the hall’s unload queue. Using GPS may direct you the wrong way into the queue.
  3. When it’s your turn, you’ll drive up to your hall and movers will unload your belongings into a cart. They’ll deliver your items to your room while you park your vehicle in a designated parking area/garage. Please make sure all move-in containers (plastic totes, suitcases, other boxes) are clearly labeled with name, hall, room number and cell phone number.
  4. You’ll need to move all fragile or easily breakable items yourself, including bicycles and all electronics (monitors, tv, laptops, etc.), from your vehicle to the student’s room. This ensures no responsibility to the mover or the university if damage occurs to those items. We encourage you to bring your bike as the City of Lincoln has a convenient bike share program To check out! Just know you’re responsible for utilizing campus bike racks or storing the bike in your room.
    Consider waiting to bring some of these larger items until after you have seen your room. Lincoln also offers a variety of stores that sell items like furniture and decor including some local and secondhand shops.
  5. After parking your vehicle, walk to your hall and proceed to your room to unpack and get settled into your Husker home.

  • Twin-size, extra-long, deep-pocket sheets fit on our mattresses.

  • Toiletries (soap, shampoo, toothbrush, etc.)

  • Season-appropriate clothing (switch out during breaks)

  • Suite- and apartment-style residents will need to bring toilet paper.
  • Shower curtains are provided in suite-style, but not in apartment-style units (due to suites' shower design).

  • Pictures, posters and other decorative items. Adhesives: Traditional halls are cinder block wall - use 3M hanging tabs. Suites or apartments are drywall - use 4-penny nails.
  • Desk/floor lamps (Avoid Halogen lamps)
  • Approved UL-approved cooking appliances that comply with the small appliance policy on page 9.
Items You Shouldn't Bring
  • Candles
  • Drums and amplified guitars
  • Rope lights
  • Items that do not comply with the small appliance policy in University Housing's policies.
  • Any non-university bed frame or loft
  • Microwaves and small appliances above 800 watts
  • A personal printer. Printing is available across campus in many residence halls and academic buildings through the WEPA Printing program.
  • Corrugated cardboard isn't allowed in city landfills and must be recycled. Pack your items in reusable containers, suitcases, etc., to reduce waste, and make your move-in sustainable.
Items Subject to Disciplinary Action
  • Alcohol, illegal drugs and/or prescription drugs that do not belong to the student
  • Decorated alcohol containers
  • Candles/incense
  • Weapons or ammunition (firearms, martial arts weapons, knives, paint ball guns, etc.)
  • Pets (other than fish)
  • Fireworks/other explosives
  • Tobacco-free & smoke-free campus policy: Smoking and the use of tobacco products in and on all university property.
  • For traditional halls only: Any cooking appliance not specified as approved, including but not limited to toaster ovens, hot plates, George Foreman grills, and any appliances not ULlisted, are prohibited.
Items To Discuss With Your Roommate
  • Television and/or sound system
  • Microwave (800 watt maximum), if you are assigned to a traditional-style hall
  • Video game console
  • Carpet/rug
  • Room decorations
  • Futon/small couch
  • Consider waiting to purchase these items until you and your roommate see your space to help you pack less and avoid bringing items you may not need.

Do we need to bring an ID?

Please bring your N Card.

Do I need to mark my move-in containers (plastic totes, suitcases, other boxes)?

Yes. Clearly mark them with your name, hall, room number and cell phone number.

What items will the movers not take to my room?

The University of Nebraska–Lincoln and the movers take no responsibility for any damage to electronics or other breakable items. You'll be responsible for moving your bicycle and electronics, including TVs, computers, monitors, etc., and anything breakable into your room.

When I move in, can I move some things in and go home until classes begin?

Yes, you can move in, and then come and go as you please. We encourage you to stay on campus to meet new people and get to know your new home! There will be lots of activities associated with Big Red Welcome.

You can move additional items in but, will need to take the stairs during the move-in window. We encourage moving more of your belongings after 6 p.m.

Where do I take our second car while movers unload my car?

Park your second car in the parking garage nearest your hall. Remember, just one car for curbside unloading.

I have a parking permit but it's not for the garage. Can I park in the garage during move-in?

Yes, you can temporarily park any car without a parking permit in the parking garage from Aug. 12-19. Don't park in any Faculty/Staff parking spaces. Bring only one car for curbside unloading.

When does my fall meal plan start?

Fall meal plans start Sunday, August 18, 2024.

Where can I purchase a parking pass for the semester?

Will the movers unload my bicycle? How about my futon?

Futon yes, bicycle, no. You'll need to take your bike to your hall. Make sure you register your bike.

Can I bring a bicycle to campus?

Absolutely! UNL is recognized by The League of American Bicyclists as a platinum level Bicycle Friendly Business. If you do bring a bike, it's ok to keep it in your room. Just check with your roommate. Make sure to register your bike if you bring it to campus.
Also check out Lincoln’s bike share program, BikeLNK. UNL sponsors six bike share stations across its campus and UNL community members receive a significantly discounted annual membership for unlimited rides, making it a great option for biking on campus and around Lincoln!

What if I'm arriving at the airport without a car?

It's a short Uber/Lyft/taxi ride to Devaney. If you arrive between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m., Aug. 18-22, go to the south side of the Devaney Center to pick up your move-in materials. If your arrival time is outside of those dates and times, go directly to your hall to check in.

Vehicle Limit

Curbside Move-In: Only ONE VEHICLE will be permitted per student during curbside move-in, such as a sedan, SUV, van or pick-up truck. U-Hauls, trailers and campers aren't permitted and won't fit into the parking garages. If family members bring additional vehicles, they'll be directed to the parking garage. You'll be responsible for transporting materials from that vehicle to the room after the curbside move-in has finished for the day.

Consider waiting to bring all of your items on your first move-in day and focus instead on bringing your essentials first. Waiting until you see you room can help you pack less and avoid bringing items you may not need.to check out your space can help you avoid bringing (and unpacking) unnecessary items. Lincoln also offers a variety of stores that sell items like furniture and decor including some local and secondhand shops to help you reduce your impact and make your transition to campus more sustainable.
